The Two-Fold Purpose of a Vegetable Steamer
Defined Tag: Vegetable Steamer.
Tradition can be an evil thing and in the realm of cooking, tradition is at its most evil. The most common method of cooking vegetables is boiling them. This is a real downer of a method of cooking vegetables because it launches a two offensive on the main benefits of vegetables.
First, boiling kills a great number of the nutrients that are healthy for people. The ‘good stuff’ is essentially boiled out of the vegetables. In a way, boiling defeats the purpose of eating vegetables. But, that taste good, right? Wrong!
The second problem with boiling vegetables is that boiling almost totally dulls the taste of the veggies. Boiling flat out makes vegetables taste as bland as they look as boiling also totally dulls the colors of the veggies! The chemical process that boiling has on vegetables is not kind. It really wrecks havoc on veggies and should really be avoided.
The best option when it comes to eating vegetables is to buy a vegetable steamer and steam those vegetables. A vegetable steamer does not cause the previously mentioned problems that boiling causes. A vegetable steamer retains the great taste of the vegetables (thus avoiding dumping junk like butter on them to salvage some taste) and also retains all the vitamins and beneficial components of the veggies.
While taste is always and important concern (and with a vegetable steamer, taste is maintained quite well), maintaining the nutritional value of vegetables should always be the most important concern as the oxidization that vegetables offer the body is extremely important. A vegetable steamer thoroughly maintains and the nutritional value and allows for better absorption of the nutrients by the body.
Purchasing a vegetable steamer is a wise choice as steaming is probably the best way to cook vegetables bar none. And it makes them taste great too so it is even doubly recommended!
